Weboptimiser | Internet News | Virgin America Flies Google Apps

Google apps are really taking off. Virgin America is said to cut its email system costs by about half annually as 1700 employees switch their corporate email to Gmail and collaborate more using Google Calendar, Google Docs and Google Talk.

They are suggesting that the change over for all 1700 employees will take about two weeks and they will be reaping the rewards very soon.

Virgin America are being supported by a third party and they are said to save themselves 50% of the costs for thier 18 terabytes of storage space as well as storage management costs.

Especially important as their business continues to grow and they hit more routes and hire more employees.

Ravi Simhambhatla, Chief Information Officer for Virgin America says “As the only airline based here in Silicon Valley, our goal has always been to use the best in technology and design to reinvent the air travel experience for the better.”

“The transition to a cloud-based email system allows us to save costs and increase the speed and efficiency of our platforms, so we can focus on what we do best: elevating the flying experience.”

This continues their collaboration with Google. Back in 2008 they offered Air to ground video streaming to Youtube Live.

Everything that we recommend for your account we have tried and tested for ourselves and our existing clients, to good effect. Google apps are … Google apps are really handy. I use Google Docs for things like spread sheets. It’s more convenient not having to email them. You can just make them public and provide a link to them.
