Facebook News | Facebook Impact on US Mid Term Elections

November 24th, 2010 19 comments

Most impact was around the ‘I Voted Badge’, a universally adopted badge that millions used to indicate that they had voted.

The Latest Facebook News….

Foursquare, Google and Gowalia offered location based election day goodies that included the I voted badge, Google created and Election Center and a location aware campaign toolkit.

Twitter was used to relay and report election results around the web and appeared on cable news.

Google provided data on most search for candidates but the most prolific results were returned in facebook, where over 12 million clicked the I Voted badge icon, compared to just 5 million in the previous elections. It seems that there was a turnout of 88 million. By my calculations 15% of those voters were accessibly via facebook, making it the medium of choice for engaging with voters for sure.

Facebooks own data team have been able to tease out key information from its database, showing what type of people decided to vote, when they went to the polls and what factors may have influenced their decisions. They reported that they tracked 98 hotly contested House seats, 74% of the candidates with the most facebook fans won.

It was declared before the elections that the Republican Senate candidates held the most significant social media advantage over their democratic opponents, this rang true in the results.

Well this is my last day in Miami and this is where the elections took place just a short time ago. If you would like to vote for me, click on the like button, leave a comment, forward to a friend or subscribe to my channel.

Matthew Roughan joined the School of Applied Mathematics at the University of Adelaide in February 2004, where he is interested in the area of design, and installation of Internet measurement equipment, and the analysis and modeling of Internet measurement data.

ABSTRACT
The rapid growth of the Internet over the last decade has been startling. However, efforts to track its growth have often fallen afoul of bad data — for instance, how much traffic does the Internet now carry? The problem is not that the data is technically hard to obtain, or that it does not exist, but rather that the data is not shared. Obtaining an overall picture requires data from multiple…

PART 2 MAKING RUSSIAN EDUCATION GLOBALLY COMPETITIVE

November 24th, 2010 No comments

A key element to any economic modernization strategy anchored on innovation and knowledge-intensive industries is education. Russia’s university system in particular will need to educate technologists, scientists, engineers and business leaders that can compete on a global basis.
1) What should governors of the Russian university system do to improve its competitive position on a global basis? How should the government support these efforts?
2) How might public-private cooperation in education accelerate efforts in innovation? What are the best models to emulate?
3) How might international collaboration — both with sister institutions and international students — accelerate excellence in select fields of study?

Meeting With Senator Bill Nelson On Single Payer Health Care 28, May 2009

November 24th, 2010 8 comments

Nurse Practitioner/2006-2008 Congressional Candidate John Russell and Family Practice Physician Greg Silver review their visit to U.S. Senator Bill Nelson’s Tampa office where detailed information on a Publicly Financed Single Payer Health Care Option was presented to the Senator’s staff.

The absolute minimal request of the Senator (given all of the empirical data in support of including a public option provided), was that Senator Nelson publicly request of Senator Max Baucus, Chair of the Senate Finance Committee that a representative for the Single Payer option be provided a seat at the table.

THIS was our starting point. “The BALL” as it were is now in the court of Senator Nelson. WE await his response. Discussion of a conference call or face to face meeting with the Senator were to be arranged by his staff. Again, we will assess the response of the Senator.

Below are excerpts from analysis and discussion of this issue on http://www.johnrussellforcongress.com

“The Plan” must be comprehensive including basic dental, prescription coverage as well as long-term care and home health. A comprehensive effort targeted at improving the health of the American people will reward both patients and care providers for reaching individual benchmarks such as weight loss, smoking cessation, diabetes prevention/management and control of blood pressure.

Every health care provider knows that preventative care is the “Ticket” to improved health care outcomes. America today ranks not #1 according to World Health Organization Statistics but 37th! Improved outcomes through improved patient education and compliance with issues such as weight loss, diabetes prevention/management, smoking cessation and blood pressure will decrease major risk factors for morbidity/mortality, and will help America to climb up the ladder to improved quality and length of life for all Americans.

A healthier America it can be shown will be a more productive America and with the cost burden of a grossly inefficient means of financing and organizing health care lifted from the back of our economy, a more competitive and prosperous America will be our reward.

It is reliably anticipated that enough people will choose the public plan, that the US will then evolve towards a single-payer plan IF our elected officials allow such a plan to be approved. This IS the reason WHY the major health insurers are fighting tooth and nail against the Public Health Care Financing Option i.e., Single Payer.

In the event that proponents of a National Single Payer Plan prevail, the predictable result will be that private insurers will face new rules and competitive pressures to hold down their costs and deliver better coverage. Could it be that private corporate insurers would rather NOT have to compete with a Public Health Care Financing Option?

If enough people choose the public plan, then the US will evolve towards a single-payer plan.

As a result, private insurers will face new rules and competitive pressures to hold down their costs and deliver better coverage.

Internet News | Virgin are grabbing the headlines again.

November 18th, 2010 7 comments

The latest Internet News is that Virgin Media is set to turn up the dial on its cable network, offering users speeds of up to 100 megabits per second.

It aims to provide the service to over 50% of the UK by mid-2012, beginning in December with 200,000 homes in London, the Home Counties and West Yorkshire.

So great news for the British Economy, I will not be moving and I will be taking my next ‘break’ in Yorkshire.

Neil Berkett chief executive of Virgin media said “The World of possibilities that broadband will enable is set to explode”

Mr Berkett said “We are now in a world where people want the best connectivity with whatever screen they are using and those service providers that aren’t able to deliver will simply be left behind,”

I have to agree, I heard today that it is forecast that by just next March there will be more people signing into YouTube every day than using Google.

Now, all is not lost, as it seems that whilst Virgin Media is taking all the headlines, their rival, BT, my supplier, is planning to offer fibre optic broadband to 70% of the UK by 2012.

The bottom line: David Cameron supports this, as do I. He said “We want to see superfast broadband brought to peoples’ homes and businesses right across the country”

Meanwhile, the majority of BT’s next-generation broadband roll-out consists of so-called fibre-to-the-cabinet, which is initially delivering top speeds of around 40megabits per second.

Definately up from the 7 megabits at second I get at home.
