Search Engine Marketing News | Starbucks Offers Mobile Payment Systems

February 23rd, 2011 25 comments

The latest Search Engine Marketing News from Weboptimiser…

Starbucks has now rolled a mobile payment system out to all its 6800 company owned stores. This followed the Starbucks successful result of a mobile payment test in key stores.

This is a huge result for the me-economy. It is clear that we can expect substantial growth in the very near future, following this real world example. And I have an update on NFC technology in just a moment.

“This is a more convenient way to pay” said Starbucks vice president brady brewer.

The Starbucks app works on blackberries and iphones, with android to get its app soon.

Using phones with an app is an interim technology, the future is destined to be based on “near field communications” technology NFC as I mentioned a moment ago.

I understand there are some privacy people who scream No ******* Way – NFW.
We don’t want people taking money from us when we are near!

NFC is already popular and a proven technology in Asia where the phones already have the chips and the retailers already support them.

According to Juniper research mobile payments were $100m in 2010 and they are expected to reach $200m by the end of 2011.

If you would like more news like this please go ahead and subscribe now to make sure that you get the next update.

I heard that T Mobile, Verizone Wirelsee and AT & T recently announced plans for a joint venture called ISIS that provides NFC purchasing. Testing is expected to begin in 2012.

So it looks like NFC will win over NFW.

A key element to any economic modernization strategy anchored on innovation and knowledge-intensive industries is education. Russia’s university system in particular will need to educate technologists, scientists, engineers and business leaders that can compete on a global basis.
1) What should governors of the Russian university system do to improve its competitive position on a global basis? How should the government support these efforts?
2) How might public-private cooperation in education accelerate efforts in innovation? What are the best models to emulate?
3) How might international collaboration — both with sister institutions and international students — accelerate excellence in select fields of study?

Competitive Mapping

February 23rd, 2011 No comments

VIEW THE FULL PRESENTATION HERE http://grandview.rymatech.com/2006/120-competitive-mapping.html

In the marketing classic, “Positioning: The Battle for your Mind,” Ries and Trout lament that ” … too many companies embark on marketing and advertising as if the competitor’s position did not exist. They advertise their products in a vacuum and are disappointed when their messages fail to get through.”
This won’t happen to you if you sign up for the Webinar “Competitive Mapping – differentiation made easy,” presented by message strategy expert Lawson Abinanti. A competitive map is the best way for you to determine that you are making a unique marketing claim. The Web seminar shows you how to analyze print advertisements, marketing collateral and Web sites with an eye to deducing the positioning behind them.

Once you have determined how your competitors are positioned, a competitive map gives you an intuitive way to see if there’s any unclaimed space you can claim. The Webinar presents a real-world example of the enterprise software market for Corporate Performance Management (CPM) and evaluates advertisements for Cognos, Business Objects, SAS, Hyperion and Outlooksoft. Facebook Marketing News | Facebook Friends Privacy Invasion

February 16th, 2011 25 comments

The latest Facebook Marketing News…

Facebook friends privacy invasion is the latest change that has facebook users enraged again.

It seems that everything that facebook does seem to enrage someone somewhere and the one thing they all have in common is that they are facebook users.

This time, facebook users who ‘like’ something could find a story appearing care of the brand the user liked. If the brand has bought into Facebooks latest offering, allowing an advertiser to pay for a “Sponsored Story”

The promoted story will appear on the right side of a users home page where events, questions, friends you may know and other content is located.

Personally I don’t think this is a problem, in fact I am happy to be reminded of brands I like, as it turns out that those ads can be very targeted and give me information about what is happening that I want to know. In my view I welcome the interaction that it affords and I am perfectly able to decide what to do if I like what I see.

My friends already get to see what I liked, now my friends could get a short story that could go some way to explain why I liked it.
